Caroline Sutherland Newsletter
APRIL 2006

Hello Everyone!

The focus this month is children - yours and mine. What about the children? This newsletter takes a look at some of the ways that we can help our children to breathe a little easier, concentrate more fully and enjoy the health and well being they deserve.
I ask the question: are we doing our part? Are we doing all that we can to nourish them and nurture them. From where I sit as an intuitive, I don't think so.

In this newsletter, I would like to shed some light on a number of stategies we can implement to change this. As parents and grandparents, it is our responsibility to raise healthy children. Let's do all that we can to recognize that each child is different, each has different sensitivities, allergies and emotional issues that need to be addressed.

Health and vitality are so important to me. It is my great joy to continue to be in touch with you through this newsletter and to help you to stay motivated on your path to optimum wellness.

Blessings, Caroline

ARTICLE - What about the children?

A few months ago, I was invited to a performance at my grandaughter's Montessori preschool. All the children were learning French, and they wanted to show off their skills to interested parents and grandparents. I am a medical intuitive. In a psychic wink of an eye, I can look at a person large or small and see the imbalances and what might be useful to correct them.
That rainy morning was no exception. Of all the children who sat in a circle repeating the French words and phrases with the teacher, I observed only 3 children out of 15 who were really "on" and fully present. They were soaking up the information, responding and participating.
The rest were simply "not there." Oh yes, they were trying - struggling against a wall of food allergies, chemical sensitivities, yeast related maladies and behavior problems. All of these kids in my opinion, were intolerant to milk based products and sugar. If only we could stop feeding our children these 2 items, they would be a much healthier group and many of their sinus problems, recurrent ear infections and behavior problems would clear up.

It continues to baffle me that we are not getting this simple, basic, yet vitally important piece. I am grateful that my daughter listens to what I teach. My grandchildren drink goat's milk, they rarely have sugar nor are they exposed to soda pop. These two children are smart, clear, energetic and ready to learn. I love my grandchildren and in this instance, I'm not bragging.

Last summer, I was visiting a friend at her cottage. We were all sitting on a log after enjoying a swim in the ocean - my favorite thing to do! I looked over at her teenage daughter who had been struggling with a weight issue for years. It was hard not to mention what I "saw."
Finally, I blurted it out, "Pam, I bet you'd lose that extra weight if you stopped eating dairy products." Sure enough, in 3 months she lost over 20 pounds just by doing that one thing. No dieting, no calorie counting and no strenous exercise. Now at 17, she is gorgeous and at her ideal weight - without effort, just knowing about this important food intolerance.

How could you tell that your child or grandchild might be milk intolerant? Look at their eyes - puffiness under the eyes, dark circles or red circles under the eyes are tell-tale signs. Is your child experiencing recurrent ear infections? is your child constipated. Are they acting out and having problems concentrating in school? Do they look dull and listless? Are they scratching their genitals? Do they have psoriasis or eczema?

Give this a try: take your child off dairy for 7 - 10 days and see the difference. Milk is for baby cows, not humans.

A woman called me from Iowa. Her 3 month old son had an ear infection. I suggested that she remove the milk immediately. You guessed it - the earaches stopped - never to reoccur.

So take a look at this with your own fmaily members. Do your best to minimize the sugar and remove the dairy - especially if your chilren are displaying any symptoms I have mentioned.

Now let's look at the Candida Yeast Syndrome. If your child has been exposed to antibiotics give them liquid acidophillus - 1/4 to 1/2 teaspoon daily on an empty stomach. This helps to recolonize the intestinal tract and keep this ubiquitous yeast under control.
In my opinon Candida Yeast is another epidemic problem in our culture largely due to a high starch high sugar diet and exposures to antibiotics both by prescription and in the dairy, poultry and meat industries.

The February issue of Mothering Magazine features an excellent article on Autistic children which documents encouraging breakthroughs with diet, Candida Yeast erradication, mercury detoxification and homeopathy. Mothering Magazine has been in existence for 27 years. The founder and editor Peggy Omara does a superb job of bringing the best information focussed on natural family living. Back issues of the magazine are available at:

Another great reference is Dr. Doris Rapp's book "Is This Your Child." Dr. Rapp is a pioneer in food allergies and chemical sensitivities. Her groundbreaking work in Environmental Medicine has been an important guiding light and led me many years ago, into this field.

Wool Bedding - Comforters and Pillows

If you are having sinus or breathing problems consider retiring your feather pillows and comforters. Feathers trap mold and dust.
Years ago, I was given a wool comforter from New Zealand. I never thought they existed in this country. I was delighted when a client of mine introduced me to

in Olympia Washington.
We love our comforter. It is light, warm and allergy free. Wool is a great alternative to feathers.
Holy Lamb Organics use only the best materials of organic cotton and pure wool. Their complete bedding line includes: bed & body pillows, wool comforters, mattress tops, and organic sheeting and toweling. They are a zero waste company and focus on using sustainable materials and methods.
