Schizophrenic Child Featured on Oprah Posted on October 6th, 2009
If you thought that your children were a handful try being the parents of Jani Schofield a seven-year-old girl from Valencia California afflicted with schizophrenia, a complex mental disorder. Imagine having to cope with a child who hears voices, acts aggressively, is constantly demanding and for whom there is no known cause or cure. Jani was featured today on Oprah and there is no doubt that her parents are trying every option to help their daughter. Medication is keeping her relatively stable but as I watched the program, I noticed several clues. As a health educator and medical intuitive a number of environmental factors that could have a significant bearing on her condition caught my attention.
I noticed carpet on the floor (chemical out-gassing) a room full of plastic toys (environmental toxins) fast food eaten in the car (food allergies) juice (high sugar) and Kool Aid tubes (chemicals and additives) all a burden on the immune system and known to cause behavior problems in certain, very sensitive children.
Where is the wisdom and the logic of helping a child and not taking in to account offending foods and chemicals? I would urge this family to investigate Orthomolecular Medicine which is nutritional medicine and review the work of Dr Doris Rapp MD., Pediatrician specializing in Environmental Medicine. Jani can be helped. Maybe she might be on medication for the rest of her life but I have seen children greatly improved by dietary changes and chemical avoidance.

Toll House Cookies Making People Sick Posted on June 24th, 2009
Seems large food giant Nestle is having a few problems. A large number of people have developed e-coli as a result of eating raw toll house cookie dough. I could have told you so. Any substance containing eggs needs to be carefully prepared and kept refrigerated at all times. As a child I remember my family attending a summer picnic and cookout. A number of people came down with food poisoning. My father who was a doctor figured the suspect was potato salad. Eggs and mayo are two key ingredients in potato salad and on a warm sunny afternoon make the perfect breeding ground for e-coli or food poisoning, or just a tummy ache. If you’re going to a pot luck or backyard barbeque, steer clear of the potato salad.
Now back to the toll house cookies. Who doesn’t like cookie dough? Smooth and crunchy with those chocolate chops and walnuts peppered throughout the creamy mixture. In the old days, I must have consumed quarts of the stuff. Now I know better. Food allergies and blood sugar handling issues makes me steer clear of all kinds of cookies. They neither call to me nor take their “toll” on my system. Check out my June, 2009 newsletter which contains a great recipe for almond flour cookies with crunchy walnuts and just a bite of ginger.

Jenny McCarthy Has Given Up Sugar Posted on May 13th, 2009
Jenny McCarthy has given up sugar. This feisty advocate for Autism announced that she has given up sugar, gluten, corn and a number of offending foods. Try it for yourself. I gave up these foods 25 years ago and it changed my life. No more pain and joint stiffness, better memory and concentration, lots of energy. Healthy aging – turn back the aging clock. People don’t realize that food is fuel. What you pout in to your body translates in to cell tissue and power. Rev up your power and eat what your body wants, not what you want. Mood and energy follows blood sugar. Good for Jenny.
