Hello
Everyone!
Last
month I had a wonderful visit to the Canadian North - the home of
the oil tar sands project. For many years, huge earth moving
machines and intricate processing plants have been extracting oil
from sand and creating petroleum products. Now that gasoline prices
have reached record levels, companies from around the world are
investing in this - the largest oil reserve in the world! There are
serious environmental factors of course but until alternatives can
be found, oil continues to pour forth from this part of Northern
Alberta. It was quite an experience to witness the energy of the
north and the wonderful people there. I am most grateful to Life
Force Herbal Healing Center for inviting me to Fort McMurray
Alberta. I admire the courageous people who live in the area
amid some extreme weather conditions. People breathe air filled with
petroleum fumes, deal with swirling dust and bitter cold. The land
is raw but the people are warm and friendly. Life is what you make
of it. It doesn't matter where you live - the rugged north or the
steamy south. Bloom where you're planted - I have a fun story in
this newsletter that really illustrates this point. May is about
blooming - growing and blossoming with all the creative gifts that
reside within you. Write a book, paint a picture, host a party -
branch out, bloom and have fun!
My
popular TELESEMINARS continue on Monday nights at 5:30pm
PT/8:30 ET. Meet interesting guests and get the latest
information on hormone balancing, alternative cancer treatments,
medical intuition, diet and nutrition. I'll be answering your
questions and doing spot readings too. Register here.

Did it! Bio-Identical Hormone
News! |
|

|
|
For
the past six months I am sure all of you have responded to
pleas to let the FDA know that you you want to have full and
complete access to all bio- identical hormones including
estriol which they were planning to BAN. The voice
of reason and the voice of women prevailed. Read
on:
HEADLINE: U.S.
House Resolution Deems FDA's Policy on Estriol "NOT in the
PUBLIC INTEREST" Yesterday,
H. Con. Res. 342 was introduced in the U.S. House of
Representatives opposing the Food and Drug Administration's
(FDA) decision to restrict Estriol (a form of Estrogen), a
compounded hormone preparation used by women to alleviate the
symptoms of menopause. The bill counters that the new FDA
policy restricting women's access to medications containing
estriol "does not serve the public interest" and calls on the
FDA to "reverse its policy." The resolution also calls on the
need of FDA to "respect the physician-patient relationship"
and recognizes that doctors, not the FDA, are in the best
position to "determine which medications are appropriate for
their patients."
Reps.
Mike Ross (D-Ark.), Jo Ann Emerson (R-Mo.), Sam Farr
(D-Calif.), Tammy Baldwin (D-Wisc.), Michael Burgess
(R-Texas), John Carter (R-Texas) and Gabrielle Giffords
(D-Ariz.) introduced the resolution in the House of
Representatives. The action was taken after the FDA sent
letters to seven pharmacies in January asking them to cease
and desist with the use of estriol. This is a HUGE step
in the right direction! We applaud the thousands who have
written letters to your members of Congress on this issue and
encourage you to keep writing.
"Estriol
helps women manage the menopause process and has been proven
safe and effective. FDA's decision is not predicated on
evidence, therefore questioning their interference in the
states' jurisdiction over drug compounding," said Bruce
Roberts, RPh, executive vice president and CEO of the National
Community Pharmacists Association (NCPA).
Since
FDA announced its estriol policy in January, the agency has
since attempted to allay the concerns of thousands of women by
stating that doctors may prescribe compounded hormones
containing estriol if they complete an Investigational New
Drug Application (IND). Unfortunately, this process is
unworkable.
For
decades, doctors have prescribed compounded hormones
containing estriol to women suffering from the painful
symptoms of menopause. The International Academy of
Compounding Pharmacists (IACP) estimates that hundreds of
thousands of women are prescribed these drugs today. FDA's
policy would force these women to discontinue the hormone
treatments that their doctors have determined is appropriate
for them.
Pharmaceutical
giant Wyeth petitioned the FDA in October 2005 to prohibit
compounding pharmacists from preparing hormones that contain
estriol on the grounds that doing so posed a "serious threat
to public health." At the same time, though, Wyeth was
marketing drugs containing estriol as "an ideal therapy"
across Europe.
Wyeth's
petition generated more than 70,000 responses, the
overwhelming majority of which from women and doctors opposed
to Wyeth's request. Unfortunately, FDA fulfilled Wyeth's
request earlier this year when it announced that it would
"halt" the compounding of compounded hormones containing
estriol.
Compounded
hormones containing estriol are lawfully prescribed, prepared
and dispensed in all 50 states and their use is accepted by
the United States Pharmacopeia and the Pharmacy Compounding
Accreditation Board. The FDA has acknowledged that it is
unaware of any adverse events associated with the use of these
drugs. Estriol is a component of a multiple sclerosis
treatment undergoing Phase II clinical trials; in compounded
form it is prescribed by doctors to treat both multiple
sclerosis and symptoms of menopause.
Pharmacy
compounding is a long-standing, state- regulated and medically
vital practice. Millions of Americans have unique health needs
that off-the-shelf prescription medications cannot meet. For
them, customized, compounded medications -- prescribed or
ordered by licensed physicians and mixed safely by trained,
licensed compounding pharmacists -- are the only way to better
health.

Caroline's
reading for me was life changing. In just an hour without
knowing anything about me and just listening to me talk about
my son, she nailed our issues. He no longer has asthma attacks
and I have lost weight and have regained my mental clarity
which had been decining for the past few years. This woman has
the rare gift of intuition and I am most
grateful. Shelley

You Like To Write a Book? |
|

|
|
I
love it when friends of mine or anyone with a good story to
tell writes a book. I am just delighted to announce that
Louise Hay's personal assistant Shelley Anderson has released
her new book Dealing With Diva's. It's all about the
life of a personal assistant and in fact the book is perfect
for anyone in the service industry. I adore Shelley, she's
lively and fun and she's done a great job on this book. A
sense of humour will get you through anything - let Shelley
show you how!

Here's
an excerpt: Be A L.A.R.K. A is for Ask and Accept The
first step in the L.A.R.K. method is to ask for and accept
that you deserve what you want. This step is more
difficult for most people than the listening exercise. Asking
for what we want from our bosses (or lovers, or families, or
mechanics) is a big step for many of us. Another step in the
process is the realization that we actually deserve to ask for
something and receive it. Talking with fellow personal
assistants, I've found that they find this step to be very
difficult to do. Asking for help, or asking for something like
a day off from work or a raise, is torture to them. If we
pick our moments and don't rehash the past or act out of
resentment or resignation, we can ask for what we want and
actually get it. I've done it, and the ceiling didn't cave in
on top of me. Like anything else, it just takes practice.
We've spent so many years practicing being disappointed that
it just takes a few times of being told yes before we start to
believe we can have what we want. It really is that simple.
Here's an example:
Assistant:
"I'd like to talk to you about scheduling my vacation time
this summer." Boss: "I'm too busy right now. Just send me
an e-mail." Assistant: "I'll follow up with an e-mail so we
have it in writing. And I'd like to confirm with you now that
taking the week of July 4th off is all right." Boss: "I'm
going to be on Leno that week, right?" Assistant: "Yes,
Leno's people have confirmed, and I've already got your travel
arrangements made. I need to make my own reservations so can
you give me an okay on my days off?" Boss: "As long as my
stuff is set, that's fine." Assistant: "Great! I'll follow
up with you by e-mail and make sure you have everything you
need before I leave the office on the
third."
Using
the L.A.R.K method, we're retraining our mind to accept the
new thoughts as true. I knew an assistant who literally had to
stand up every day to eat her lunch. She didn't have a real
lunch break! She sorted the daily mail in mail slots (she
worked on a large estate), and the only time she was "allowed"
to eat was for that half hour while she sorted the mail.
Asking to have a lunch break was too scary a thought for her,
so she never did. I think she was in that job for five years
before she finally left - that's a lot of lunches. Was it
worth it? For more on the LARK method, read and enjoy
